If you are a rubgy player or a rugby coach then you know that rugby is a sport of explosive moves and the players have to have the energy and power to endure until the end.   This sport takes contact to the extreme.  Every single play in a rugby game involves smashing, hitting and crashing in some form.  Being tackled, tackling or being in a scrum on the rugby field is not a nice day at the park.  The weak will not survive.  Since rugby players have to put forth so much force, power, strength, energy and endurance then it just makes since to train with kinetic bands in order to work against the force of the resistance.
